Google Meet brings speech translation to mobile

Google Meet’s real-time speech translation feature has expanded to mobile devices, allowing users on Android and iOS to follow conversations in a different language without switching apps or tools.

The feature, which first launched on the web, translates spoken audio in near-real time during meetings. It currently supports bidirectional translation between English and five other languages: Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, and Italian. Only one language pair can be active per meeting.

For users joining from a physical conference room, the feature will deliver translated audio to listeners, though the room’s own outgoing speech will not be translated in the current version.

Availability and rollout

The rollout began on 8 April 2026 for rapid-release domains, with full visibility expected within 15 days. Scheduled-release domains will begin receiving the update on 23 April 2026, also with up to a 15-day rollout window.

Speech translation will be enabled by default for eligible accounts. Administrators can manage the setting at the organisational unit level.

The feature is available across several Google Workspace tiers, including Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, Frontline Plus, and consumer plans under Google AI Pro and Ultra. The AI Ultra Access and Google AI Pro for Education add-ons are also supported.

Regional relevance

For professionals across the Middle East who regularly collaborate with international partners, the addition of real-time speech translation to mobile broadens accessibility considerably. Business meetings involving English and Arabic counterparts where one party communicates in a supported language can now benefit from near-instant translation without relying on third-party tools.

Google has indicated that translation accuracy and the interface will continue to be refined over time.
