The Epomaker EK21 is a 20-key hot-swappable numeric keypad that combines portability, versatility, and premium design elements at an affordable price. With triple-mode connectivity, a full aluminum knob, durable PBT keycaps, and a gasket-mounted structure with dampening layers, this numpad is designed to complement compact keyboards without compromising on functionality.
What’s in the Box
Inside the box, Epomaker includes everything you need to get started:
- EK21 Keypad
- USB-C to USB-A braided cable
- 2.4GHz wireless dongle
- Keycap/switch puller
- Three spare switches
- Replacement Backspace keycap
- User manual

It’s impressive to see extra switches and a spare keycap bundled in the box, as even higher-priced keyboards often don’t include them.
Design & Build Quality
The EK21 features 20 keys plus an aluminum alloy knob in a sleek three-tone design. The black case and knob contrast nicely with the white and cream keycaps, giving it a clean and modern look.
The case is slightly inclined, making it more ergonomic and easier to reach the top rows of keys. On the back, you’ll find the USB-C port, a storage slot for the 2.4GHz dongle, and a mode/power switch. The underside includes rubber feet that provide excellent grip on different surfaces.

Despite its sub-$50 price tag, the build quality feels premium. Epomaker has included a gasket-mounted structure with multiple dampening layers (Poron foam, IXPE switch pad, and CNC polycarbonate plate), which delivers both a soft typing feel and reduced resonance. The lightweight polycarbonate case also makes the EK21 highly portable.
Keycaps & Knob
The EK21 comes with PBT keycaps in Cherry profile, offering durability, oil resistance, and non-fading legends. The cream-colored number keys have dark legends, while the function keys feature black fonts on dark grey, creating a subtle two-tone effect.

Each key has a lightly textured surface for better grip. The full aluminum knob, located at the top left, feels solid and provides smooth, tactile control. By default, it adjusts volume, but it can be reprogrammed through VIA for custom functions.
Switch Options
The EK21 supports hot-swappable 3-pin and 5-pin mechanical switches, making customization easy without soldering. Epomaker offers the numpad pre-built with two factory-lubed switch options:
- Epomaker Zebra – smooth with a slightly firmer press
- Epomaker Wisteria V2 – lighter with a creamy, softer feel
Both switches work well with the gasket structure, producing a pleasing sound and responsive typing experience.

Connectivity
The EK21 supports three modes of connection:
- USB-C wired for maximum responsiveness
- 2.4GHz wireless via the included dongle for low-latency performance (1000Hz polling rate)
- Bluetooth 5.0 with up to three paired devices (125Hz polling rate)
This flexibility makes it easy to use across Windows, macOS, Android, and tablets. Switching between modes is seamless, and the detachable cable adds practicality.
Performance & Everyday Use
In daily use, the EK21 proves to be highly versatile. For productivity tasks like spreadsheets, editing, and number-heavy workflows, it’s far more comfortable than relying on the number row of a keyboard. The knob adds quick volume or scrolling control, which is particularly useful for creative professionals.
Thanks to its compact and lightweight design, we also found it convenient to carry and use with tablets or laptops on the go. VIA support allows full programmability of every key and the knob, making it adaptable to any workflow.
Lighting & Sound
South-facing RGB LEDs provide vibrant lighting effects with multiple presets. The illumination isn’t overpowering but is bright enough to enhance visibility in low-light environments.
Sound performance is one of the standout features. With the gasket mount and foam layers, keystrokes deliver a satisfying “thocky” profile without unwanted ping or rattle. In fact, the sound quality rivals that of some premium DIY kits.
Battery Life
Equipped with a 1000mAh battery, the EK21 offers solid endurance. With RGB on, it lasts several days of regular use, and turning off lighting extends battery life significantly. Charging is quick and simple via USB-C.
Verdict
The Epomaker EK21 is a compact yet feature-rich numpad that delivers excellent value. From its hot-swappable switches and gasket-mounted design to tri-mode connectivity and VIA programmability, it offers the kind of flexibility usually reserved for higher-end keyboards.
Whether you’re a gamer, data analyst, or creative professional, the EK21 is a smart upgrade if you’re missing a numpad on your compact setup. At around $40, it’s one of the best budget numpads available today, combining portability, premium typing feel, and customization.
