Epomaker TH87

The Epomaker TH87 delivers a well-rounded experience that prioritizes sound, feel, and wireless flexibility. Its solid construction, smooth linear switches, and effective dampening make it enjoyable for both typing and gaming. While the large battery may be more than most users require, it reinforces the keyboard’s focus on long-term convenience. For users seeking a refined tenkeyless mechanical keyboard with strong out-of-the-box performance and easy customization, the TH87 represents a capable and thoughtfully designed option.

THE GOOD
  • Solid gasket-mounted build with effective internal dampening
  • Smooth, pre-lubed linear switches with a refined sound profile
  • Tri-mode connectivity
  • Long battery life
  • Web-based software with straightforward customization
THE BAD
  • Large battery adds noticeable weight for a TKL keyboard
  • Stock colorway may not appeal to all users

The Epomaker TH87 is an 87-key wireless mechanical keyboard positioned for users who want a refined typing experience with flexible connectivity. It features a fully dampened, gasket-mounted structure designed to deliver a soft, “creamy” sound profile, along with tri-mode connectivity that supports wired USB-C, a low-latency 2.4GHz dongle, and Bluetooth.

Design and Build Quality

For a tenkeyless keyboard, the TH87 feels noticeably solid. Part of this heft comes from its internal 10,000mAh battery, which is unusually large for this layout. While arguably more capacity than most users need, it translates into extended usage between charges, particularly with RGB lighting disabled. In typical mixed-use scenarios, the keyboard can comfortably last several weeks on a single charge.

Internally, the keyboard uses a layered, fully dampened design with foam and a silicone bottom layer. This construction minimizes hollowness and gives the board a deep, muted sound when typing. The chassis feels rigid, and tapping across the case reveals very little flex. Two-stage kickstand feet on the underside allow for basic angle adjustment.

Aesthetically, the TH87 leans toward a clean, minimalist look. Branding is subtle, limited to a small logo near the lower-right corner. Along the top edge, the USB-C port, OS selector, and power switch are centrally placed for easy access. Dedicated indicator lights near the Escape key show Caps Lock, Scroll Lock, and battery status. One visual highlight is the RGB light strips running along both sides of the keyboard, which add character without overwhelming the overall design.

Keycaps, Switches, and Stabilizers

The TH87 ships with Cherry-profile, double-shot PBT keycaps in a pastel, aurora-inspired color scheme. The legends are crisp and durable, and the PBT material should resist shine over long-term use. While the colorway may not appeal to users who prefer high-contrast designs, it complements lighter desk setups well.

This unit comes fitted with Epomaker’s Creamy Jade linear switches, featuring 45g springs. The switches are pre-lubed out of the box and feel consistently smooth during both typing and gaming sessions. The sound signature sits between a soft “thock” and a light “clack,” leaning toward a controlled, creamy tone that suits the gasket-mounted build.

Stabilizers are reasonably quiet in stock form, with minimal rattle during use. Enthusiasts may still choose to fine-tune them with additional tuning or lubrication, but this is not essential for most users. The hot-swappable PCB supports both 3-pin and 5-pin switches, making switch customization straightforward.

Performance and Gaming Experience

In daily use and gaming, the TH87 performs reliably. Keystrokes register consistently, and we did not experience missed inputs, interference, or noticeable latency when using the 2.4GHz wireless mode. With full N-key rollover and a high polling rate, the keyboard is well-suited for fast-paced games as well as productivity tasks. The linear switches and moderate spring weight make extended sessions comfortable, balancing ease of actuation with enough resistance for controlled typing.

Software and Customization

Epomaker provides a web-based configuration tool, removing the need for local software installation. The interface is simple and functional, covering key remapping for both base and function layers, RGB lighting controls, macro creation, and profile management. Lighting options include multiple effects, brightness and speed adjustments, and custom RGB settings.

Macro recording works as expected for keyboard inputs, though mouse clicks are not directly recorded. Users can, however, insert mouse button actions manually into macros. Profiles can be saved and managed through the configuration section, making it easy to switch between setups.
