Samsung Reveals New PRO Plus and EVO Plus SD Cards

Samsung just released a new line of SD cards for content creators and photo enthusiasts. Their new line consists of the new PRO plus and EVO plus SD cards. This new generation of SD cards provides more performance and an additional layer of protection, which will help with more intensive usage and rash conditions.

With Samsung shown to be the second biggest key player in a recent SD card market-share report, it is a pretty big deal when updates like these happen. But probably not a big deal to you and me because these SD cards are purpose-made for content creators and photographers who trust to store all their important work in them (always keep a backup).

This would explain the level of protection Samsung is trying to achieve with these SD cards. In addition to protection from water, temperature, x-rays, magnets and shocks, the new SD cards are now drop-proof and wearout-proof, withstanding up to five-meter drop as well as up to 10,000 swipes. Both lineups come with a 10-year limited warranty.

The new Pro Plus achieves sequential read and write speeds of up to 100MB/s and 90MB/s, respectively. This a slight upgrade from the previous generation which had read and write speeds up to 95MB/s. They claim that these speeds will allow for “flawless” 4K UHD video recording and burst shots. The Evo Plus offers transfer speeds of 100 MB/s ensuring smooth playback when editing 4K as well as Full HD videos. Both are available in storage capacities from 32GB up to 256GB.
