How to Protect Your PC From Hackers

The devices that you use for gaming are essential to your enjoyment of the game. Unfortunately, whether you use your computer or phone for gaming cyber threats are always looming.

You need to be aware of them as they can severely damage your computer or your phone and prevent you from playing your games. It is never a good idea to leave your gaming devices unprotected as hackers will seize the opportunity to hack into your device.

The great news is that there are several ways you can prevent this from happening so that your computer or phone is always protected.

Install a Firewall and Antivirus

You should install a firewall on your computer. Always ensure your firewall is up to date before you access the internet. The reality is that there are several cyber threats out there, take a look at the top 10 cyber security threats to understand what you are up against.

One thing you should never be without on your computer or phone is antivirus software.

A lot of people put antivirus software on their computers but they often forget to put these on their phones as well. You must make sure that you are securing both of these devices in order to ensure that you are protecting yourself while you are gaming online.

Make sure that you run regular scans of your computer and phone this way you will know if your device is being compromised while you are gaming.

Strong Passwords

Since the beginning of the internet, experts have asked people to have strong passwords and this is absolutely true. The more complex your password is for your computer or your phone the better off you will be.

For computers make sure that you use a combination of lower and uppercase letters as well as different computer symbols to try to make your password more complex. Avoid using things like your birthday, wedding day, or even your child’s birthday for your password. These are often very easy to guess if hackers are able to get their hands on your personal information.

Respond to Updates

When you have a computer or a tablet there are always updates to software that need to be made. Your job is to make sure that you are responding to these prompts for updates as quickly as possible. Do not put off updating things like your browser or even critical hardware components of your computer or your phone.

These vulnerabilities have been identified by the manufacturer and updates have been made to protect users. Delaying an upgrade could be just the small window, that a hacker needs to steal valuable information from your computer or your phone.

Avoid Public Wi-Fi Networks

The temptation to save money on data is a big one and it is understandable if you want to save some of your data. However, public Wi-Fi is notoriously dangerous, even if it makes gaming on the go consistent.

Public WiFi has no security features and they are one of the biggest sources of data breaches for hackers.

If you connect your phone to these networks and you don’t at least have antivirus protection you are basically opening up every piece of information in your phone to one hacker. Don’t log on to public Wi-Fi networks from your computer as well.

Try to avoid using them unless you are desperate for a connection to complete a project. Even so, it is always better to hotspot your phone and use your own data instead of opening up your computer to connect to a Wi-Fi network that is public.

Use Bluetooth Wisely

The use of  Bluetooth has become widespread when using phone devices. While they are handy and can help you to move around more freely and take your calls, you need to make sure that they are not idle at any time.

Once your Bluetooth is not in use you should turn it off as this is another popular way in which hackers can target your phone.

Stay Protected

As you can see there are several ways in which hackers can target your devices and make life difficult for you. Once you use your devices for more gaming you need to make sure that you are protecting them. It is not that difficult to secure your devices it just requires a little bit of effort on your part to stay safe.
