Dyson WashG1

The Dyson WashG1 Wet Floor Cleaner is a solid first attempt at a dedicated wet floor cleaner. It excels at mopping up both routine and stubborn messes, is easy to handle, and offers a thoughtful cleaning system that separates debris from dirty water. However, it’s not without flaws—particularly in suction power, tank capacity, and streaking during use.

THE GOOD
  • Excellent at wet mopping and stain removal
  • Sleek, compact design with intuitive controls
  • Effective on multiple hard floor types
  • Easy to operate and maintain
  • Separate debris tray system
THE BAD
  • Limited suction for dry debris
  • Small water tanks require frequent maintenance
  • Debris tray can be messy to empty
  • Occasional streaking on fresh spills
  • Relatively short battery life in high mode

Dyson has a reputation for innovation in the cleaning appliance space, and with the WashG1 Wet Floor Cleaner, the company takes its first dedicated step into the wet floor cleaning category. We are eager to see what Dyson could bring to the table with its unique design and engineering.

Design & Features

The Dyson WashG1 features a slim, lightweight design that’s easy to maneuver and visually in line with the brand’s aesthetic. It uses two wide, counter-rotating microfiber rollers for wet cleaning, while separate clean and dirty water tanks ensure you’re not reusing contaminated water. One standout design feature is its debris tray, which collects larger dry particles separately from the dirty water tank—an unusual but welcome change from traditional models.

The controls are intuitive, and we appreciated the clear digital display showing battery life and cleaning modes. The machine runs for up to 35 minutes on a full charge, and in our tests, we saw slightly better performance with around 41 minutes on the lowest setting. The battery is removable, which adds flexibility for storage and charging.

Cleaning Performance

In terms of real-world performance, the WashG1 delivers where it matters most—clean floors. Whether it was dried-on spills like grape jelly and chocolate syrup or wet messes such as cereal with milk, the machine cleaned effectively with minimal effort. It also left no sticky residue behind, and we found the multiple hydration settings particularly useful when cleaning water-sensitive surfaces like hardwood.

The unit is capable of handling a variety of sealed hard floors, including tile, laminate, and vinyl. It performed well in tackling stubborn stains and was surprisingly effective in dealing with post-wildfire debris on outdoor surfaces, removing soot and ash with ease.

Usability

The WashG1 is easy to operate and maintain. Removing and cleaning the water tanks is straightforward after a bit of practice. However, the stacked tank design might feel a bit bulky, especially for those with smaller hands. The lack of a printed manual was a minor inconvenience, though Dyson provides helpful resources on its website and app.

That said, there are some trade-offs. While it picks up light dry debris, it doesn’t offer traditional vacuum suction. Larger dry items like cereal tend to get wet and mashed into the rollers, requiring multiple passes or manual cleanup. Also, the debris tray—while innovative—is messy to empty and not spill-proof. If not handled carefully, it can leak when lifted.

Limitations

There are a few aspects that could use improvement:

  • Streaking Issues: We noticed some streaking, especially when cleaning up fresh spills. This appears to be due to a plastic strip under the cleaner head that drags liquids instead of fully absorbing them.
  • Small Water Tanks: The compact design comes at the cost of small clean and dirty water tanks. These require frequent refills and emptying during extended cleaning sessions.
  • Battery Runtime: While acceptable for small to medium areas, the 35-minute runtime on Low may not suffice for larger homes, especially when using higher power modes.

Final Verdict

The Dyson WashG1 Wet Floor Cleaner is a solid first attempt at a dedicated wet floor cleaner. It excels at mopping up both routine and stubborn messes, is easy to handle, and offers a thoughtful cleaning system that separates debris from dirty water. However, it’s not without flaws—particularly in suction power, tank capacity, and streaking during use.

For those who already vacuum before mopping or want a lightweight, stylish wet cleaner for hard floors, the WashG1 is a capable and practical option. At $700, it’s a premium device, and we hope Dyson continues refining the design in future iterations.
