Quntis ScreenLinear Radar Pro+ Review

The Quntis ScreenLinear Radar Pro+ is a thoughtful and well-executed upgrade to an already solid monitor light bar lineup. The addition of radar-based presence detection genuinely enhances convenience and energy efficiency, rather than serving as a gimmick.

THE GOOD
  • Accurate radar-based presence detection
  • Automatic on/off improves convenience and power efficiency
  • Glare-free asymmetric lighting with high color accuracy
  • Simple setup with a clear, easy-to-use remote
THE BAD
  • Settings do not always respond well to rapid adjustments
  • Radar mode is not retained after power-off

We previously reviewed the Quntis RGB Pro+ monitor light bar and found it to be a reliable and well-executed desk lighting solution. Building on that foundation, Quntis has now introduced the ScreenLinear Radar Pro+, a 20.1-inch asymmetric LED monitor light bar that adds an uncommon feature for this category: radar-based presence detection.

At first glance, the idea of radar technology in a consumer desk accessory may sound excessive. However, after extended use, it becomes clear that this feature is more than a novelty—it meaningfully improves everyday usability.

What Is the Quntis ScreenLinear Radar Pro+?

The ScreenLinear Radar Pro+ is a 20.1-inch asymmetric LED monitor light bar designed to provide glare-free task lighting while automatically responding to user presence. The built-in radar sensor detects movement within approximately 50 to 70 cm, allowing the light to turn on when someone approaches the desk and switch off after a period of inactivity.

The asymmetric LED design ensures that light is directed toward the desk surface rather than the display, reducing reflections and eye strain. Color temperature is adjustable from 3000K to 6500K, brightness is steplessly dimmable, and the light output is rated at a high CRI (Ra ≥97), making it suitable for long work sessions, reading, and content creation.

Why Radar Instead of PIR?

Most motion-activated lights rely on passive infrared (PIR) sensors, which work well for detecting lateral movement but struggle with subtle or head-on motion. Radar sensing addresses these limitations.

In daily use, the radar sensor proved capable of detecting fine movements such as typing at a desk, as well as direct approaches from the front or side. This makes it particularly effective for desk setups, where users often remain seated and relatively still for long periods.

Design, Setup, and Controls

Quntis has refined the mounting design compared to earlier models. The light bar and monitor mount are now integrated into a single unit, with a removable spacer to accommodate different bezel thicknesses. Instead of a counterweight, the mount uses an adjustable two-segment bracket that conforms to the rear of the monitor. An Allen key is included for fine adjustments.

The unit is powered via USB-C, and Quntis includes a right-angle USB-C cable, which helps reduce strain and accidental damage when routing cables behind a monitor. During testing, the light bar sat securely on a 24-inch Dell monitor and remained stable during normal use.

Notably, there are no physical controls on the light bar itself. All adjustments are handled through a wireless remote puck powered by three AAA batteries (included). The remote is clearly labeled and intuitive, with dedicated controls for power, brightness, color temperature, ambient light sensing, and radar-based presence detection.

Real-World Performance

In terms of lighting quality, the ScreenLinear Radar Pro+ performs exactly as expected from Quntis. Illumination is even, soft, and free from screen glare, with enough brightness range to suit both daytime and low-light environments.

The standout feature, however, is the radar-based presence detection. Once enabled via the remote, the light reliably turns on when movement is detected within range and switches off automatically after five minutes of inactivity.

In our setup, approaching the desk from the side or behind consistently triggered the light. This proved especially useful during short breaks, where the light would otherwise be left on unnecessarily. The automatic shutoff not only saves power but also reduces wear over time.

The sensor responds to general movement rather than strictly identifying a person. For example, pets moving across the desk can trigger the light, although the system does not detect very subtle motion such as breathing. As a result, the light may turn off if the user remains completely still for several minutes—something that is unlikely during normal desk work.

Minor Limitations

There are a few small usability quirks. Rapid adjustments to brightness or color temperature can occasionally fail to register if inputs are made too quickly. In practice, this is unlikely to be an issue, as most users will set their preferred lighting once and leave it unchanged.

It would also be beneficial if the light remembered the radar setting after being powered off. This is a minor inconvenience, but one that could be addressed in future revisions.

Verdict

The Quntis ScreenLinear Radar Pro+ is a thoughtful and well-executed upgrade to an already solid monitor light bar lineup. The addition of radar-based presence detection genuinely enhances convenience and energy efficiency, rather than serving as a gimmick.

For users who spend long hours at a desk and want automatic, glare-free lighting without manual interaction, the Radar Pro+ offers a practical and refined solution. While it commands a higher price than standard monitor light bars, the added functionality and overall build quality make it a compelling option for modern workspaces.
