120Hz ProMotion Will Be Exclusive to Pro iPhone 14 Models

Apple launches its iPhone series every year with better updates than the previous ones. After the last year’s successful launch of the iPhone 13, people are now looking forward to iPhone 14.

There is no potential launch date for the iPhone 14, but following the previous iPhone launch events, Apple is expected to release iPhone 14 series in or around September 2022.

We have been hearing numerous rumors about the new iPhone series, mainly related to camera and display updates. Stay with us to find out more details about upcoming iPhone14 models!

iPhone 14 Models

From this year onwards, Apple will discontinue 5.4-inch mini models due to lackluster sales. Thus, the iPhone 13 will be the last series featuring the mini models. The upcoming iPhone 14 is expected to have four models, including:

  • iPhone 14: 6.1-inch
  • iPhone 14 Max: 6.7-inch
  • iPhone 14 Pro: 6.1-inch
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max: 6.7-inch

According to Jeff Pu, all four models of iPhone 14 will be having 6GB RAM, unlike iPhone 13 non-pro models. In 2022, Apple is expected to introduce a major camera update. The upcoming iPhone 14 Pro models are likely to feature a high-quality 48MP camera.

120Hz ProMotion

Back in 2017, Apple first introduced ProMotion display technology to iPad Pro which allowed automatic refresh up to 120Hz for smoother scrolling, enhanced responsiveness, and improved performance.

Last year with the launch of the iPhone 13, Apple brought the high refresh-rate display – 120Hz ProMotion to the iPhone, but to some users’ consternation, this new powerful feature was exclusive to only the Pro models – the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.

120Hz ProMotion display limited to the iPhone 14 Pro models

This year, we were expecting to see a120Hz ProMotion display across the entire iPhone 14 series as one of the renowned analysts, Jeff Pu predicted all four iPhone 14 models to feature the 120Hz Promotion display. However, the latest information implies that iPhone 14 will follow the tradition set by iPhone 13 and will be featuring the 120Hz Promotion display only in Pro models.

In contrast to Jeff Pu’s prediction, Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), revealed that the 120Hz ProMotion display will be exclusive to only the Pro models of iPhone 14. While replying to a tweet on Twitter, Ross Young said introducing the 120Hz ProMotion display would be quite risky as the BOE Display, which is surmised to be the world’s leading display maker and one of the main suppliers of OLED panels for iPhone models, did not have enough LTPO capacity and had yet to ship LTPO panels. Moreover, he presumed that the company may introduce the ProMotion display to all iPhone models in 2023.

In view of this recent leak, iPhone 14 series will only bring the 120Hz ProMotion displays to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Thus, the rest of the models in the series, which are supposed to be the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Max, are expected not to bring an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz.
