Design

The G7 controller has a high-quality build and features subtle, quality-of-life improvements compared to the standard Xbox controller. It comes with textured, ergonomic grips, which help to keep your hands comfortable and cool during long gaming sessions. The controller also has a comfortable shape that reduces fatigue.

The GameSir G7 controller also has anti-friction glide rings around the edges of the analog sticks, which are designed to prevent the sticks from grinding against the sharp edges of the controller case. These glide rings are made of smooth plastic and help to reduce wear and tear on the joystick stems. They also provide a smoother feel when using the sticks.

At the bottom of the controller is a 3.5mm headset port and at the top is a USB-C port that you can use to connect the controller to consoles or computers using the included detachable 3m braided cable with a USB-C connector.

The G7 controller includes all of the buttons that you would find on a brand-new Xbox Series X|S controller, including the share button. In addition to these buttons, the G7 controller also has a mute button at the bottom, two mappable buttons at the back and a ‘M’ button located next to the D-pad. This button can be used to activate the Hair Trigger mode, configure buttons, switch between profiles, and control the volume and game-chat mix using the D-pad.

One potential downside to the design of the G7 controller is that it requires a specifically shaped USB-C cable that fits into the port. However, you can use the cable that is included in the box.

The analogue sticks are well tuned and slick thanks to the anti-friction glide rings. The D-Pad is snappy and the X, Y, A, and B face buttons has mechanical-click feel to it, which is very satisfying. GameSir claims the micro switches have an actuation distance of just 0.6mm – which is instantly noticeable.

The triggers use Hall Effect technology and uses electromagnetic sensors for extremely smooth response. They also feature a ‘Hair Trigger’ mode actuate at the slightest touch and allows you to lightly tap to activate game commands. There are a total of four rumble motors, in each grip and triggers and the vibrations feels quite good. On the back side of the controller are two additional triggers which can be mapped to in-game functions.

In terms of software, the GameSir Nexus software app is available for download on Xbox and PC from the Microsoft App Store. The software allows you to customize and create up to three unique profiles for your G7 controller by mapping buttons, adjusting the D-pad diagonal, configuring the sticks and triggers zone, and adjusting the vibration settings.
