Ring TAKE Encryption Announced for Greater Control Over Video Data
Ring TAKE encryption announced as its future default, giving users greater control over video encryption while retaining access to cloud-based security features.
Ring Familiar Faces is now rolling out in the UAE, allowing users to identify known visitors and receive personalized notifications from compatible Ring devices.

Ring has announced the rollout of Familiar Faces in the UAE, an opt-in feature that can identify people users already know when they appear at their front door.
Once enabled, Familiar Faces can provide personalized notifications such as “Mom at Front Door” instead of generic motion alerts. The feature is designed to give users more context about who has been detected without requiring them to open the Ring app and check the live feed.
Familiar Faces is rolling out to eligible Ring 2K, 4K and select HD devices in the UAE with a compatible subscription.
After enabling the feature, compatible Ring devices can detect faces when people approach the camera. Users can then identify and label people they recognize through the Ring app.
The Familiar Faces library supports up to 50 profiles, which can include family members, neighbors, babysitters and other regular visitors. Once a person has been added and named, that name can appear in notifications, the timeline and Event History.
Users can also customize notifications for individual people. For example, they can choose to receive notifications when a family member arrives home while reducing alerts for their own movements around the property.
Ring says the feature is intended to help reduce the number of generic motion notifications and make it easier to identify events that may require attention.
Familiar Faces is turned off by default and must be enabled through the Ring app.
Once activated, users can access their Familiar Faces library and:
Names assigned to familiar faces are also visible to shared users on the same Ring account when they receive notifications.
Ring says Familiar Faces has been designed with privacy controls built into the feature. It is opt-in and remains disabled until the customer chooses to activate it.
According to Ring, face data is encrypted and remains associated with the customer’s account rather than being shared with others.
The Ring app also provides information about obtaining explicit consent from visitors when required by applicable laws.
Users should therefore consider local privacy and data-protection requirements before enabling facial recognition features, particularly when cameras may capture visitors or other people who have not been added to the user’s Familiar Faces library.
Familiar Faces is beginning to roll out to Ring customers in the UAE with an eligible Ring Pro subscription and compatible 2K, 4K or select HD devices.
Ring says eligible customers will receive a notification in the Ring app when the feature becomes available on their devices.
