The TOZO PE1 is a compact and budget-friendly Bluetooth speaker that aims to deliver strong audio performance in a portable form factor. With features such as Bluetooth 5.4, IPX8 water resistance, dual-device connection, and stereo pairing, it targets a broad range of users, from casual listeners to outdoor enthusiasts.
Design & Build
Weighing only 178g, the PE1 is a highly compact speaker—small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. It features a carabiner-style clip that, while not removable, is useful for attaching the device to a backpack or gear. The front is covered in mesh fabric, while the body is made from 50% recycled plastic with a rubberized base and physical controls. The build quality is solid, and the device feels durable enough to withstand daily use and travel.

In the box, you’ll find the speaker, a USB-A to USB-C charging cable (somewhat short), and a quick start guide. Color options include black, blue, and red.
Connectivity & Controls
The PE1 is easy to set up and use. Standard media and volume controls are included, along with a dedicated pairing button and LED indicator—removing the guesswork often found in Bluetooth pairing procedures. Bluetooth 5.4 provides a stable connection and fast pairing, with the ability to connect to two devices simultaneously. However, it’s worth noting that playing music from a second device does not automatically pause the first.

A companion app is available for firmware updates and EQ customization, although the default sound profile will be sufficient for most users.
Audio Performance
The TOZO PE1 is powered by a 43.5mm dynamic driver and delivers a surprisingly robust audio experience for its size. The sound signature is well-balanced, with a full-bodied bass that is impactful without becoming overly boomy. It handles bass-heavy tracks well, though at maximum volume in small spaces, the bass may feel slightly exaggerated.

The mids are somewhat recessed, meaning vocals can occasionally be overshadowed by other elements in the mix. The treble is clean but it lacks the air and extension needed for tracks that require a high level of detail. For optimal audio performance, the speaker should be positioned to face the listener directly, as off-angle placement results in a noticeable roll-off in the high end. The PE1 does not stand upright on its own, so leaning it against an object is recommended.
Battery Life
Battery performance is strong, with claims of up to 32 hours of playback on Amazon, while TOZO’s website lists a 20-hour rating. In either case, it competes favorably with similarly sized or larger speakers in its price range. The 1,200mAh battery charges via USB-C, but there is no support for wireless charging.
A notable limitation is the degradation in sound quality at low battery levels. When the charge is nearly depleted, the audio becomes compressed and distorted—something not typically observed in other Bluetooth speakers. Keeping the unit well-charged mitigates this issue.
Features
The PE1 includes a built-in microphone, allowing for hands-free calls and voice assistant functionality (compatible with Siri and Google Assistant). Call quality is acceptable, and the noise-canceling mic helps reduce background interference.

The speaker also supports stereo pairing with another PE1 unit, enabling a wider and more immersive soundstage for larger environments. While there is no intercom feature, the stereo mode is a valuable addition for users looking to scale their setup.
IPX8 water resistance means the speaker can withstand submersion in water up to 1 meter for 30 minutes, making it suitable for use in wet environments such as by the pool, at the beach, or in the shower.

Limitations
There are a few design considerations that may impact usability. The fixed carabiner makes the unit less pocketable, and a removable option would have improved flexibility. Additionally, the speaker does not include a kickstand or flat side to help it stay upright on its own.
Conclusion
The TOZO PE1 is a well-rounded portable speaker that offers strong value for its price point. It delivers good sound quality, a rugged and travel-friendly design, and a respectable set of features, including stereo pairing, voice assistant support, and water resistance. Its few limitations—such as bass-heavy tuning at high volumes, recessed mids, and sound degradation at low battery—are minor when weighed against its strengths.
Retailing for $32.00 and often available for as low as $19 through TOZO’s website or Amazon, the PE1 represents an excellent choice for users seeking an affordable and reliable portable Bluetooth speaker.
