Geekay announces Esports division

Geekay group have a long history of not only leading but growing the Gaming industry in the MENA region. Through distribution and retail with their multiple partners and their love for the community of gamers, CEO Kishan Palija has decided to launch Geekay Esports and continue to grow the community by expanding into Esports.

Geekay realizes that the gamers in this region are not getting the recognition and media exposure that they deserve, and the talent here misses out. Kishan noticed this gap between the Global Esports setup and the MENA region. According to Statista, “In 2021, the global eSports market was valued at just over 1.08 billion U.S. dollars, an almost 50 percent increase from the previous year. Additionally, the eSports industry’s global market revenue was forecasted to grow to as much as 1.62 billion U.S. dollars in 2024. Asia and North America currently represent the largest eSports markets in terms of revenue, with China alone accounting for almost one fifth of the market”.

“To create our very own Esports team is the best way to give back to the community. We are glad to invest into the future and extremely excited to launch our esports team very soon. We want to focus on gamers and develop them, in order for them to compete as the best esports teams, worldwide. We will create countless opportunities for this region as well as upcoming esports stars by helping them reach their utmost potential and compete on the international stage.” – Kishan Palija, CEO, Geekay Group.

Meena George, has been appointed as the Head of Esports at Geekay Group, having been a part of several esports initiatives in the region. Meena has been trusted to carry this vision forward and turn it into a reality.

Geekay Esports mission will be to scout great talents – train, support and sponsor them to play leading esports games globally, while focusing on content and the narrative of these players.

This will give Arab gamers a real chance to compete in international tournaments, allowing their talent to be recognized by the world. Their first official act as Geekay Esports is to create a scouting tournament, which will be the first of its kind in the MENA Region, with a total prize pool of over 10,000 USD. The most talented players will be chosen and will have the opportunity to be a part of the Geekay Esports Team. We aim to make these players, not just the best in the Middle East but all across the globe.
