Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar Mini Hands-on Review

The Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar Mini, the result of a collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits, offers top-notch audio prowess in a compact frame. With a footprint suited for various spaces, this soundbar delivers impressive 7.1.4 virtualization, creating a three-dimensional audio experience that enriches smaller areas.

Targeted toward audio enthusiasts seeking an upgrade for their living rooms, desktops, bedrooms, or game rooms, this soundbar measures a mere 70 x 10 x 6.5 cm, effortlessly blending into any TV or monitor setup while delivering cutting-edge acoustics. Sporting 250 Watts of amplification, it features four high-end full-range drivers and dual four-inch subwoofers, ensuring sharp fidelity, impactful bass, and clear audio presence.

Supporting Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, MPEG-H codecs, and 360 Reality Audio formats, the AMBEO Soundbar Mini offers diverse audio experiences. While excelling in small spaces, it falls short in larger rooms, struggling to deliver the complete 7.1.4 simulated surround sound experience due to its 250W output, unlike its higher-tier counterparts.

Featuring content-specific presets, Voice enhancement, and Night mode, this soundbar caters to personalized listening experiences. Its HDMI1 input accommodates a wide range of eARC-enabled TVs or monitors, while integration with the Sennheiser Smart Control App simplifies feature management and updates via smartphones.

Equipped with four integrated microphones, the AMBEO Soundbar Mini serves the AMBEO room calibration and supports Alexa Built-In. Users can also cast audio through Chromecast Built-In and AirPlay using existing Google Assistant or Siri-enabled devices.

The native AMBEO|OS operating system enables room calibration with one-touch functionality, tailoring surround virtualization to suit room sizes and acoustic textures. Additionally, the Mini doubles as a streaming companion over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, offering vibrant sound and impactful bass.

While our hands-on test revealed a boost in overall sound performance through room calibration, the packaging includes a remote control for basic controls and preset modes. The Adaptive AMBEO mode adjusts based on content, while users can choose from preset modes like Music, Movie, Neutral, News, and Sports.

For small apartments, the AMBEO Soundbar Mini provides an outstanding soundbar experience. However, it may not fulfill expectations in larger home theater setups. The AMBEO Soundbar Mini is available for order from September 1st at sennheiser-hearing.com and select retailers for an MSRP of $799.99.
