Xbox Console Prices Have Gone Up Across the Board
Xbox Console Prices: Microsoft has raised prices across its Xbox lineup effective August 1, 2026, with 512GB models increasing by $100 and 1TB models by $150.
Report claims PlayStation 5 will be backward compatible with PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4
The PlayStation 5 is said to be backward compatible with PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4 catalogues, as claimed in a new report via Comicbook.com
As you may know, Sony has filed patents in the past that have seemingly suggested the PS5 will support backwards compatibility with every previous PlayStation console. Further, it even patented a system to add trophies to PS1 and PS2 games. In other words, it’s clearly been investing in backwards compatibility technology, but for now, it remains unclear how this will manifest with the PS5.
YouTube content creator HipHopGamer claimed that one of his sources told him that the PlayStation 5 will be compatible with the PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4 catalogues of games. This is possible through the “remastering engine” that Sony has poured a lot of resources into, to ensure that the games will run on the new hardware with enhancements. Allegedly, one of the things the “remastering engine” will offer is 4K resolutions for these old games, which is very impressive indeed.
According to the report, the feature will work similarly to how the Xbox One X handles backwards compatibility. In other words, the PS5 won’t just run these older games, but add to them with enhancements like 4K support.
Now, of course, all of this information should be taken with a grain of salt given that it’s unofficial information. In other words, until you hear this from Sony itself, we likely won’t know for sure until the company unveils the console later in 2020. That said, HipHopGamer has proven to be a reliable source in the past. Further, while he doesn’t divulge his sources in the report, he’s confident enough in what he’s heard to put his name behind the claim and confirm that it’s actually happening.
Playstation 5 being backwards compatible with all generations of the console would be a wonderful way to honour its legacy on the 25th anniversary of the PlayStation 1’s release. Maybe dig those old PS2 games out of the attic just in case.
