Playstation gifts two free games as part of its ‘Play At Home’ Initiative

Free games to play whilst you sit at home during the lockdown? That sounds like a great idea and Sony has now joined the party and is offering two games for free.

The first free game is Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection which comprises of a three-game collection from Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception – all remastered for PS4.

The second game is the critically acclaimed Game of the Year Award winner for 2012 – Journey, which is also described as art within video games among many other things.

The two games have a redemption period of April 15 at 8PM PDT (April 16th, 7AM, UAE Time) through May 5, 2020 at 8PM PDT (May 6th, 7AM, UAE Time) and once you redeem the games, they are yours to keep. Both games will be free to download, no PlayStation Plus required, and are free to keep forever starting April 15.

What is Play At Home Initiative?

“Play At Home has two components: first, providing free games to help keep the PlayStation community entertained at home; and finally, establishing a fund to help smaller independent game studios who may be experiencing financial difficulties continue building great experiences for all gamers” as described by Jim Ryan on the Playstation US Blog.

Playstation fans might want to point out that The Nathan Drake Collection was free last month as a PS Plus offering which is true but it might not have been redeemed by people who forgot or did not have a PS Plus subscription, while it is open to all. Both the games are excellent games to have while we brace the Covid-19 lockdown.

The giveaway is part of Sony’s newly announced Play At Home initiative, which comprises both a way to “help keep the PlayStation community entertained at home” and a $10 million fund “to help smaller independent game studios who may be experiencing financial difficulties continue building great experiences for all gamers.”
