Anthropic Rebuilds Claude Code Desktop App Around Parallel Sessions

Anthropic, the developer behind the Claude Code platform, has unveiled a significant update to its desktop application, focusing on enhanced multitasking capabilities and a more streamlined user experience. The revamped app is designed to cater to the needs of power users, particularly those in the Middle East region who rely on efficient coding tools to drive their projects forward.

Enhanced Session Management

The updated Claude Code desktop app introduces a redesigned interface, featuring a sidebar that allows users to effortlessly manage multiple sessions, filter by status, project, or environment, and group sessions by project. This new layout enables developers to navigate and organize their work more effectively, ensuring a more productive coding experience. Additionally, a side chat shortcut, accessible via (Command + 😉 enables users to branch off a question from a running task without having to provide extra context.

The app’s developer workflow has been further integrated, with the inclusion of an in-app terminal for running tests and builds, a file editor for making spot edits, and a rebuilt diff viewer designed to handle large changesets. The app also features an expanded preview pane that supports HTML files, PDFs, and local app servers. Each pane can be rearranged using a drag-and-drop interface, allowing users to customize the layout to suit their preferences.

Additional Features and Updates

The updated desktop app now matches the Claude Code CLI in terms of plugin support, and SSH sessions are supported on both Mac and Linux platforms. Users can also choose from three view modes – Verbose, Normal, and Summary – to decide how much of Claude’s tool-call activity they want to see. These updates are available to users on Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans, ensuring that developers across various industries and organizations can benefit from the enhanced features.

Recently, Anthropic has introduced Routines, a new feature that enables users to set up Claude Code automations that can run without an active session. Routines allow users to bundle a prompt, a repository, and relevant connectors into a single configuration that can be run on a schedule, triggered by an API call, or initiated by a GitHub event, such as a new pull request. Routines are currently available in research preview to Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise users with Claude Code on the web enabled.
